burning man

          Burning Man is an event that takes place once a year in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada. Thousands of people gather in the desert to create Black Rock City for a week. The city that is created focuses on community, self-reliance, art, and self-expression. Each year a large structure is burned on the festival grounds which is where the name came from. The experience you have depends entirely on the activities you choose to participate in. Burning Man is a safe place to create art as well as appreciate the art around you. With the festival being a result of all of the people that attend and thier individual art forms, the possibilities are limitless as to what you may experience.

        I chose to research Burning Man becasue I felt that it fit the purpose of this class perfectly. We have spent most of our time looking at art in different forms from many perspectives. Burning Man is an arts tradition that explores the same things we have in class with very little limitation. Thanks to the freedom provided at Burning Man, people are able to create their own experience which is something I have been able to apply to my own life. I have been looking at objects around me with a new perspective and it has even helped me with my own designs and ideas.
